Texturing Techniques

Texturing Techniques with Mike Hall, Vice President of Product Development and Filament Sales and Chris Persson, Vice President of Sales and Marketing

Drake threads unique, customized and design-specific features into all of our products; but we are a known and trusted market leader in texturing yarns.

Texturing can be done in a number of deniers and filament counts and a wide variety of fibers can be used: Polyester, recycled polyester, nylon 6/recycled nylon 6, nylon 66/recycled nylon 66. We work with multiple plies and have the ability to mix multiple yarns together.

Air jet texturing (AJT) is the process of creating products that mimic a spun yarn. AJT allows Drake to take synthetic fiber and turn it into a material that allows it to be knitted, woven, coated, rubberized, and many other features that add value to our customers' end product. We put AJT to work to push the envelope for your product's optimal performance. AJT is often used for the following products:

  • Upholstery

  • Protective gear (air tex of no-mex, peri or meta aramid (PTFE)

  • Hose coverings for firehouses

  • Coverings of electrical harnesses under hoods of gas-powered and EV vehicles to protect different components of the car

  • Apparel such as women's leggings and high end ski jackets (outer shell and fleece)

False twisted texturing (FTT) takes partially-oriented yarn (POI) to add texture and stretch that makes the yarn feel better, but also gives it mechanical stretch.

Textured yarns are often used in gloves, socks, women's leggings and other  seamless apparel and circular knit applications. It is also prevalent in protective gear and apparel and upholstery markets.

Air entangled yarns involve joining together two dissimilar or similar fibers to make sure they can process downstream into the customers' application. Air entangled yarns are typically for finer denier products and heavier or larger diameter denier for industrial applications. We leverage this technology to generate new products and optimize existing ones, enabling our customers to improve what they are already producing or expand into new markets.

Our state of the art equipment allows us to integrate these texturing techniques to creatively produce yarns that outperform other materials in a wide array of markets and applications.. Our team will collaborate with yours to understand your needs and determine the best approach. That's when the magic happens -- weaving our customers' needs with our team's expertise. These are some of the many reasons that Drake is the preferred air texturizer, false twist texturizer and air entangled producer.
